This Month: What Your Hormones Are Doing While You Sleep
A note from Shanae
Bloom family,
Last month we sat with Nourish: what's on your plate, and why it matters more now than it did at 30. This month I want to take you somewhere we haven't been yet in the Bloom Letter: what's actually happening with your hormones while you sleep, or try to.
I remember the first stretch of nights after my hysterectomy where I'd wake up at 3 a.m., wide awake, heart going, for no reason I could point to. No one told me that was hormonal. I thought something was wrong with me. It wasn't. It was information, and once I understood what it meant, I could actually do something about it.
That's what this issue is for.
With warmth, Shanae

Hormone Health
The sleep-hormone loop nobody warned you about
Estrogen and progesterone don't just manage your cycle. They help regulate your body's internal thermostat and your nervous system's ability to fully power down at night. As those hormones shift in perimenopause and menopause, two things commonly happen at once: your sleep gets lighter and more fragmented, and your stress hormone, cortisol, has a harder time settling. That's the loop: poor sleep raises cortisol, elevated cortisol makes it harder to fall back into deep sleep, and the cycle repeats the next night.
It's not a willpower problem, and it's not "just stress." It's biology. Once you see it that way, the goal shifts from forcing sleep to reducing the number of things asking your nervous system to stay alert in the two hours before bed: screens, late workouts, a heavy dinner, unresolved to-do lists.
This week, try: picking one of those four and moving it earlier in your evening, for five nights in a row. Not all four, just one.

Nourish
The fall protein reset bowl
A different kind of Nourish note this month: less about a principle, more about a plate you can actually make tonight.
Base: roasted delicata squash or sweet potato, cubed
Protein: shredded rotisserie chicken or pan-seared salmon (aim for a palm-sized portion)
Greens: a big handful of massaged kale or spinach
Crunch: pepitas or chopped walnuts
Finish: olive oil, lemon juice, a pinch of cinnamon and sea salt
It's a plate built around the same idea from last month's issue, protein and fiber first, everything else in support, just dressed for the season.

Move & Restore: The 90-Second Reset
You don't need a full recovery routine to interrupt a stressed-out nervous system. You need about 90 seconds and a wall.
Stand with your back against a wall, feet a few inches out, knees soft. Inhale for four counts through your nose, exhale for six through your mouth, long and slow. Repeat for six full breaths. That's it. This works because a longer exhale than inhale is one of the fastest ways to shift your body out of fight-or-flight, and it matters just as much before bed as it does mid-afternoon at your desk.

Mindset
An honest prompt
I lost my dad to cancer when he was 49. For a long time, that grief showed up as urgency: do more, fix more, don't waste a single day. It took me years to learn that urgency and care for yourself aren't the same thing, and that resting isn't the opposite of taking your health seriously. It's part of it.
This week's prompt: Where in your life are you confusing "pushing harder" with "taking care of it"? You don't have to answer it today. Just let the question sit with you.

Before You Go
Bloom Day 2026 is six weeks out
If sleepless nights and hormone confusion sound familiar, you don't have to figure it out alone, and six weeks from today we're doing something about it in person. Bloom Day 2026 is part wellness lab, part live show, part girls' afternoon out. Not a conference, not a wellness fair.
Here's what that actually looks like: you check in and pick your petal pin, then stamp your Bloom Passport at all four zones, Nourish, Restore, Strengthen, Connect. Stamp all four by 6:15 PM and you're entered in a bonus raffle with a Bloom Day only discount code attached. By 4:15 you're in the Hot Seat crowd watching anonymous questions land on a screen, no raised hands, followed by the Myth Round: paddles up, TRUE or FALSE, ten seconds, no hedging. There's a scent bar, a build-your-own tasting flight, a grip-strength leaderboard banded by decade, a photo arch, and 350 sealed totes with contents nobody's publishing before check-in.
When: Sunday, October 18, 2026, 3–7 PM
Where: The Pavilion at Sunrise Park, 401 S Pavilion Way, Palm Springs, CA 92262
Cost: Free. 350 spots, RSVP required, tied to those 350 sealed totes, gone when they're gone
Don't miss: the Hot Seat's Myth Round at 4:15 PM, plus my keynote, "You Are Not Declining, You Are Blooming," at 3:45 PM
Bring a friend. Bring your daughter. Bring the neighbor who keeps saying she's fine. Post your petal pin or your passport stamps and tag #BloomDay2026, we're building a live wall out of everyone who shows up.

One Last Thing
Pass this on.
If this letter helped you, forward it to one woman who needs it. That is how this community grows: one woman telling another the thing nobody told her.
You are not declining. You are blooming.
